Few artists had a greater impact on rock music in the late 1970s and early 1980s than the young Dutch-born guitarist who entered Sunset Sound Studios in 1978 to record what would become known as the Brown Sound, inspiring and influencing countless guitarists to expand their vocabulary and pursue that distinctive sound.

IK worked with Jim Gaustad, who has dedicated his career to precisely re-creating the Brown Sound, to develop a comprehensive anthology of Signature Collections available only for TONEX and TONEX ONE. Covering the Brown Sound’s evolution across six groundbreaking albums, these Tone Models document an artist’s tonal journey while transforming rock guitar forever.

From fiery leads to swinging rhythms, these presets showcase the diverse tones of all three Brown Sound collections, many of which have been enhanced with built-in TONEX FX for added depth and vibe, similar to the original recordings. Brown Sound 78/79 
Signature Collection captures the explosive guitar tones of two legendary albums with stunning precision. Built around a meticulously recreated 1968 Marshall® Super Lead (modded to the mythical #12301 spec), this collection features 50 Tone Models shaped by period-correct gear, creative miking techniques, and voltage-controlled amp behavior for unmatched feel and realism.

Brown Sound 80/81 
Captures the darker swagger and heavier tone of those two sophomore albums. The collection demonstrates the artist’s tonal shift by using a different cab for the 2nd album and bypassing or replacing specific effects. Additionally, a new guitar was used during these recording sessions, pushing the tone in new directions. All of this is reflected in 50 Tone Models, including some amp-only captures.

Brown Sound 82/84
The final installment in the limited TONEX Brown Sound series, capturing the sharp precision and fiery tone of a guitarist at his creative peak. Recorded in various studios and featuring multiple gear changes and adjustments, the artist’s high-energy mix of polished studio sound and raw attitude is perfectly captured in 50 detailed Tone Models.
