DiMarzio think an 8-string pickup should have a wide frequency response, be very articulate and dynamic, and not be muddy. All of these qualities are particularly important for the neck position, and DiMarzio have built them into the D Activator 8™. The D Activator 8™ Neck is open, clear and very responsive. It maintains its sound character even with massive amounts of gain, and it’s also bright and articulate with clean amp settings.

Because of the high output and string gauge of the low F# string, DiMarzio designed the neck pickup with medium rather than high output. The two D Activator 8™ coils are tuned to different frequencies, and combining this feature with the output level produces a clear, musical sound. It also has a dynamic solo voice throughout the entire 8-string frequency range. NOTE: If you are replacing active (battery powered) pickups in your guitar, DiMarzio strongly recommend replacing the controls with 500K potentiometers. 250K is the minimum recommended control value for use with this model.
