This 2006 LC85S came direct from the Tokai factory, but only recently. When Tokai's new owner took over operations they went through all their inventory and guitars like this, perhaps B stock at one point and then subsequently used for testing pickup combinations, were put out for sale. We think this may have been B stock due to some uneven buffing of the clear which means at some points on the binding the clear remains and is yellowed, and at other points the white of the ABS is more evident.
Why did it stick around the factory and end up being fitted by Tokai with a DiMarzio PAF bridge and DiMarzio Bluesbucker neck? It plays amazing and feels just right, so maybe it was the perfect test bed for pickup combination experimentation, and that's why it was still in the factory nearly 20 years after it was built. Either way, it's a stunning example of what Tokai was producing out of Japan 20 years ago.
The guitar was came directly to us from the Tokai factory, and is being presented for sale just as it arrived.
