Product Overview
This vintage Japanese built Les Paul is quite the bag of tricks. An unknown to us maker, and to most, this guitar has seen some transformations, and importantly, someone has enjoyed it so much they have spent time and money on those transformations.
From the simple, a change of tuners to Grovers to the more radcial work. At a glance you could miss it, but at some point this guitar has had some kind of tremolo fitted, possibly a Kahler, which has then been removed and flame maple, bookmatched to keep the centre seam line intact, has been used to fill that route.
On to the back, and the change of tuners was the easy bit. There has been a belly cut and all access style neck joint shaped and the back then refinished.
Possiibly the rear was done at the same time as the route being filled, as the top would need to have been refinished after that work also. Clearly the experimentation with the strap button position occurred after said refinish!
A quite remarkable guitar that is highly specced in timbers, evidenced not just in appearancce but in tone. And it was clearly an important guitar worth spending significant money on for someone at some point.
