Product Overview
This classic of the "lawsuit era" has recently had its frets dressed and is an amazing joy to play. There is some damage to the edge of the body and the bottom horn, as you'd expect after nearly 50 years since it's birth. The saddles have been replaced but other hardware, such as the hip Greco die--cast tuners, remain intact.
The lacquered one-piece maple neck features a quite nice striking grain, and the rosweood fingerbard is a gorgeous dark chocolate colour. Weighing in at 9 lbs, this is also a guitar that means business in the weight department. If you liike some beef in your Strats, this is one for you.
The SE-700 was a no corners cut, high end Japanese replica, built at a time when the American company it was nodding to was sufferiing a real consistency crisis in it's production. Clearly the Americans were watching, because not only did the take action to try to cut the manufacturing of these "homages" out, they enlisted the same factory that built this guitar to start building their own Fender badged Japanese guitars only a handful of years later.
